Yandina celebrates

Last month community groups, local businesses and traditional owners gathered together to celebrate the 150th birthday of the first gazetted town on the Sunshine Coast - Yandina.

They gathered at Railway Street Park and paid tribute to past generations and made a declaration to future generations.

There was the ceremonial sealing of a time capsule to be opened in 50 years and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque which is mounted on a significant Mount Ninderry Rock.

Congratulations to all past and present residents of this great town that has a very bright future. Yandina is a very popular part of the Sunshine Coast and has many wonderful attractions for visitors to enjoy. If it has been a while since you last visited, there is no better time than now.

Upgrades around our towns

Council’s project officers have been busy around our towns carrying out a variety of works.

Coulson’s Wharf Park in Yandina has new bollards and a sign that greatly improves security and entrance appeal; Mayfield Street and Reilly Road in Nambour have had kerb and channelling works; and at nearby North Arm school a few shrubs were removed during the school holidays to improve safety and visibility for school children, pedestrians and motorists in the bus parking lane. Turf will be installed to marry in with existing turf maintenance areas.

The Magpie Street and Webster Road bus stops in Nambour along with the Railway Street Yandina bus stop are also scheduled to receive an upgrade. These upgrades will ensure people of all abilities can utilise this service and enjoy public transport across the region.
