Get Ready Schools Winner

Well done to St Joseph’s Primary School Nambour who are the winners of the 2020 Sunshine Coast Get Ready Schools competition! What a tremendous achievement and I’m very proud to see a local school take out the award.

As part of council’s Get Ready School’s program, primary students from across the region were invited to enter the competition, which saw prep to grade six children from across the Coast produce a 30-second video encouraging the community to have an emergency “WHAT-IF PLAN”. All entries were assessed by representatives from our key emergency services, with three finalists chosen. The finalists’ entries then went to a community voting process that saw more than 400 votes received.

A group of very talented grade five students from St Joseph’s put together their Home Among the Gumtrees – “WHAT-IF PLAN” remix. If you have a moment, please take a look at their entry at https://haveyoursay.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/sc-get-ready-schools-competition20.

Students from St Joseph’s will now be mentored by council staff and a local media/marketing company to work behind the scenes and in front of the camera to deliver a commercial for council’s 2020 Get Ready disaster preparedness television, radio and social media campaign.

Reimagine Nambour

If you’re passionate about the future of Nambour then why not consider lending a helping hand to the Reimagine Nambour community association who are currently looking for volunteers. The group works with council and other community organisations in Nambour to ensure it continues to be a thriving regional town.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Nambour has still retained its unique character hosting many events including Retro Rocks, Changing Perceptions on Homelessness photo exhibition and Airwaves  – the drive-in music festival.

Keeping our fields in tip-top shape

Congratulations to the Division 10 sporting groups who will receive a share of $734,000 in council funding to help them maintain their club grounds for the next three years. Council’s 2020 Sports Field Maintenance Funding Program endorsed at last month’s (23 July) Ordinary Meeting.

They include Nambour Rugby League Club Inc, Nambour Rugby Union Football Club Inc, Nambour Yandina United Football Club, Eumundi Parks Recreation and Show Grounds Association and Yandina Cricket Club.

We have partnered with these organisations, the committees, groups and mums and dads who work so hard to ensure our youngest and oldest athletes love where they go to train, play and compete.
