Community meetings starting up
In Queensland the whole of community effort is paying us back with Covid-19 restrictions easing. For me this means that I have been able to connect with many community organisations in recent weeks as they have their first actual meetings since February. In some cases this has been to catch-up on their AGM or just the joy of reconnecting with friends and neighbours. I am so grateful for the very warm welcome at the meetings and the opportunity to share updates, stories and answer questions on council matters. I have attended meetings with Chamber of Commerce, Community Associations, Rotary and CWA in our wonderful hinterland towns.
One highlight was to attend the official opening of the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) Nambour Hub in C Square Level 2. It was postponed from March and what a positive initiative by USC for Nambour. The hub provides counselling services for self-referred community members at no cost. For business and corporate sector there are short courses in leadership and developing high performing teams. Part of the opening was a short course, Developing High Performing Teams for the Rural Fire Service leadership group as a thank you for their valuable service in fighting last summer’s bush fires.
To discuss your organisation’s training requirements please contact USC Project Officer Elissa Wake 0403 136 469.
National Homelessness week (2-8 August) was paid tribute with a stunning photographic exhibition, 'Challenging perceptions about homelessness on the Sunshine Coast' featuring people with lived experience of homelessness by photographer Claire Letitia Reynolds in C-Square in Nambour.
It is open from 10am until 12 noon every day (except Sunday) until Thursday 13 August.
Keeping our fields in tip-top shape
Well done to the Division 10 sporting groups who will receive a share of $734,000 in council funding to help them maintain their club grounds for the next three years. Council’s 2020 Sports Field Maintenance Funding Program endorsed at last month’s (23 July) Ordinary Meeting. They include Nambour Rugby League Club Inc, Nambour Rugby Union Football Club Inc, Nambour Yandina United Football Club, Eumundi Parks Recreation and Show Grounds Association and Yandina Cricket Club.
We have partnered with these organisations, the committees, groups and mums and dads who work so hard to ensure our youngest and oldest athletes love where they go to train, play and compete.
