New project converting waste to energy
I was extremely proud to launch an exciting environmental project in Division 1 last month - the Caloundra Renewable Energy Facility at Bells Creek, in partnership with LMS Energy, a leading renewable energy and emissions reduction company, which will operate the facility.
The facility will convert landfill biogas waste into electricity and generate enough energy to power 1200 homes. It will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 41,000 tonnes each year, which is the equivalent to removing approximately 9000 cars from the road. I think most would agree this project makes sense of our vision to become Australia’s most sustainable region – healthy, smart, creative. Learn more.
Council hours over the festive season
Please note that Council’s customer contact counters will be closed from 2pm on Christmas Eve and will reopen on January 4. If you need to contact council between December 29-31, customer service officers will still be available via phone, web chat, email and web call back.
Last minute shopping
Let’s all try to shop local this festive season and help to support our excellent local businesses. You could also check out the pop-up Christmas shop at the Beerwah CWA Hall this week and pick up some festive crafts and homemade treats.
Finally, I would like to wish everybody and safe and happy festive season. 2020 has been an exceptionally challenging year for us all and now is an important time to reconnect and refresh. I wish you all the very best for 2021.
