Awards for Conservation and Light Rail Planning
Council’s progressive thinking has not gone unnoticed over recent weeks, with the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors awarding council the 2015 Group Wildlife Conservation Award, in recognition of environmental programs we deliver including the Koala Conservation Plan, Environmental Land Acquisition Program, Volunteer and environmental grants program.
The Planning Institute of Australia also awarded council the national Policies, Programs and Concepts – large scale award for the Light Rail Shaping our Future report, and the state award in the Best Planning Ideas—Large Regional or Urban Project category: a great endorsement for the light rail project, which will contribute to shaping a sustainable future for our region. Well done to everybody involved!
Welcome home, Bindi!
I was very proud to be part of the party to welcome Bindi Irwin home from her US Dancing with the Stars victory, and help the Mayor present her with the keys to the city. Her dancing captivated audiences around the world, and by taking part in the competition she has not only promoted her conservation message, but she also attracted global attention to our beautiful region. The commitment and dedication she showed throughout the show will serve her well in the future. It certainly makes her an ambassador we can all be proud of, and delighted to welcome home.
Here’s to 2016
I hope everyone in the hinterland community has enjoyed a happy, creative and safe festive season. Happy New Year, and I look forward to another productive year in 2016.
