A great event by a wonderful group
Earlier this month I had the honour of opening the Coolum HeARTs Sing Out Concert. This outstanding event was held to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast and to mark the start of Mental Health Week. Coolum HeARTs is an amazing community organisation, which offers love and support to those people with significant challenges in their lives by providing a welcoming space for their creative endeavours. A huge thank you to Clive and Barb Holden and their support team for putting together a marvellous family day out.
Traffic improvements at Peregian State school
I recently visited the Peregian Springs State School car park drop off area to observe the improvements council and the school has made to ease traffic congestion. I would like to acknowledge Dave Williams from the school’s P&C for his efforts in identifying solutions to help parents in picking up and dropping off their children. It was very evident on that day the suggested improvements were really making a difference, however I do acknowledge the new system does rely on everyone doing their bit at pick up and drop off times to help keep traffic flowing.
Helping the community sector
Council recently hosted a free Community Sector Conference in partnership with USC. It was a chance for not-for-profit groups to hear from specialists and learn how to demonstrate the social impact of their work, which is key when applying for government funding. These groups play such an important role in our community, so it was great to provide them with some expert advice to assist them with any future funding opportunities.
