Council’s financial management in good hands

Sunshine Coast Council accounting staff have been praised for their competence after the organisation received a clean audit report for the sixth consecutive year.

This is also the sixth year council has achieved operating surpluses.

Deputy Mayor Chris Thompson described the outcome as “an outstanding result” given the additional work placed on the Corporate Services Department during the de-amalgamation costs review which was something that “came out of left field”.

“To continue to receive clean, unqualified audits, in the last two years in particular, shows prudent financial management, aligning to council’s commitment to achieving a strong financial position,” Cr Thompson said.

“This in turn sets the platform to develop long-term financial plans to optimise resources and align with council’s strategic priorities.

“We are committed to delivering even better value-for-money to our residents and communities.

“Council will continue working to deliver its vision for the Sunshine Coast to become the most sustainable region in Australia – with a sustainable economy, environment and community.”
