Council’s Director Infrastructure Services, Andrew Ryan, was named as the Queensland Engineer for 2015 at this week’s Institute of Public Works Engineering of Australasia (IPWEA) Queensland Conference.

Council CEO Michael Whittaker congratulated Mr Ryan on the Excellence Award.

“This is a wonderful achievement and it demonstrates Andrew’s, and council’s, commitment to delivering outstanding projects and quality services to our community,” Mr Whittaker said.

“This award demonstrates that council’s Capital Works Budget, $183 million for 2015-16, and maintenance of more than $4 billion of infrastructure assets, is in good hands.”

Mr Ryan said it was an honour to accept the award, which was fitting recognition of more than 25 years in the engineering industry.

“Engineers who work in the local government area get enormous satisfaction from delivering great projects and services to our communities that we live in, as part of a team of committed staff, and don’t tend to seek personal accolades,” Mr Ryan said.

“I have had the privilege of leading a great team in council over the years and their efforts are reflected in this award.

“It’s humbling to get such recognition from my peers in the engineering sector.”

As part of his role with Sunshine Coast Council, Mr Ryan is also Coordinator of the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group.

Outside of council, his current roles include Adjunct Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at University of the Sunshine Coast and member of the Engineering Degree Industry Advisory panel.
