The Sunshine Coast’s new CBD has moved another step closer with tenders being sought for the next phase of the multi-million dollar development.
Contractors are being asked to submit tenders to build new quality streets, parks, waterways and underground infrastructure for the first stage of the SunCentral Maroochydore project.
The nine-hectare stage 1A site will eventually include the development’s core commercial precinct, as well as residential apartments, retail space, a new waterway and parkland.
SunCentral Maroochydore’s Chief Executive Officer John Knaggs said the development, which will create more than 30,000 jobs over the next 25 years, was reaching an important stage.
“When we finalise this tender process, we will be awarding a significant contract for critical works that will lay the foundations for the new CBD,” Mr Knaggs said.
“Sunshine Coast locals and businesses will soon be able to see their region’s new, expanded city centre taking shape.
“They will see a vibrant city heart begin to emerge with open public space, waterways and world-class facilities.”
SunCentral Maroochydore is being developed on the former Horton Park golf course and will include a premium hotel and an exhibition, convention and entertainment centre in future stages.
The project will provide an estimated $4.4 billion boost to the local economy and the benefits are already beginning to flow through to Sunshine Coast businesses.
Earlier this month, local firm Shadforths Civil Contractors was awarded the bulk earthworks contract for Stage 1A and those works are already underway.
Work officially commenced with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson turning the first sod on February 11, 2016.
