The Expo, which will run from 9am to 2pm at Lake Kawana Community Centre follows an undertaking at last year’s Volunteer Sector Forum by Mayor Mark Jamieson that council would provide further professional development and networking opportunities for the region’s dedicated volunteers.
“The Expo is suitable for current volunteers and for those who have some spare time and have been thinking of volunteering,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“The Volunteer Expo falls within National Volunteer Week and this year’s theme is ‘Give Happy, Live Happy’.
“We’ll be celebrating that not only are our volunteers helping make the lives of others happier, they too are happier by giving back to the community
“Council’s adopted Social Strategy set a target of increasing the contribution of community members volunteering within our region from one in five to one in four.”
The Sunshine Coast Volunteer Expo program includes a range of inspirational presenters covering everything from funding and sponsorship to recruiting and retaining volunteers and much more.
The keynote address on Corporate Volunteering will be delivered by Trevor Devitt, Head of Communications at Youi Insurance.
Mr Devitt said he would like to share Youi’s philosophy of having an outward looking approach.
“At Youi it’s more than business itself – we know people and communities really do matter,” he said.
“I feel businesses humanise themselves in doing so.
“There are different approaches to community involvement. It could be providing donations, financial or volunteer support – it all makes a difference.
“I believe the business brand strength builds the community project brand and vice versa.
“At the Volunteer Expo I will outline Youi’s community projects - our approach, our successes, and importantly our lessons learnt along the way.”
