The Festive Feast will include spell-binding performances by the Gubbi Gubbi Dancers, Gifted Murri Unit, MC Wheels, Alister Bartholomew and Taleatha Wright-Morgan.
Six years ago, council was the first local government in Queensland to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in partnership with Reconciliation Australia.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said council was pleased to partner with the recently incorporated Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group to support the Festive Feast event which will showcase traditional and contemporary Indigenous and non-Indigenous performances.
“We can be proud of our journey and our achievements in progressing reconciliation,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Traditional Owner Kerry Neill on his appointment as chair of the Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group Incorporated and look forward to strengthening our relationship to support reconciliation.”
Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said council’s renewed RAP outlined a commitment to facilitating and supporting significant events such as the Festive Feast event to recognise the achievements of reconciliation champions within our local communities.
“I am honoured the Festive Feast will be held at the Playhouse Theatre at The Events Centre, Caloundra,” Cr Dwyer said.
Mr Neill expressed his thanks to Sunshine Coast Council and The Events Centre for their support in showcasing local artists at the Festive Feast.
“This event is a great opportunity to witness performances by Gubbi Gubbi custodians, Torres Strait Islander Alister Bartholomew and Pititinjara descendants, Gifted Murri Unit,” he said.
“The program will include 14 year old Taleatha Wright-Morgan, also a Gubbi Gubbi descendant, who has performed solo dances at many local events and eisteddfods for 10 years.
“In fact last year Taleatha was announced as one of the top 10 best teen dancers in the world and has recently starred in a short film entitled I’ll Be There.
“This is definitely an event not-to-be missed.”
The cost to attend is just $20 per adults, $10 for concessions and children under 18 or $50 for three tickets. For bookings and more details contact treasurer Maggie Ross on 0432 853 998 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
