It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on the Coast following the official switching on of the Mooloolaba Christmas tree lights last night (November 25).
Council kicked off Christmas and New Year festivities when Mayor Mark Jamieson switched on the Mooloolaba lights – also signalling the official opening of the Coast’s Christmas Tree Trail.
Mayor Jamieson invited the community to celebrate the holiday season and join in the fun community events happening right across the Coast.
“This is a wonderful time of year, and the program of events is again filled with fun, family-friendly activities throughout December and January,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“This year, council’s Christmas Tree Trail features 21 trees that will add some festive sparkle and light up progressively throughout the region over the next week.
“I invite everyone to share the spirit of the holiday season and support our community by heading to a local event.”
Division 4 Councillor Chris Thompson said the Norfolk pine tree at Mooloolaba was one of many amazing trees to visit this holiday season.
“No matter where you live on the Coast, there is sure to be a wonderfully decorated tree in a town near you,” Cr Thompson said.
“The Mooloolaba tree will light up the Esplanade and provide a vibrant atmosphere for all to enjoy.
“Why not take an evening drive and check out some of the other trees along the trail, including Caloundra, Buderim, Coolum, Maleny, Kenilworth, Nambour and many more.”
In keeping with council’s vision for the Sunshine Coast to be Australia’s most sustainable region, only environmentally friendly Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting is featured in all council decorated trees.
A majority of council decorated trees will be lit up on December 1 with the final tree lighting up on December 6 at Wurtulla
