Learn from the best at Cleantech Effect 2016

Leading industry experts will be showcased at Sunshine Coast Council’s Cleantech Effect 2016 on July 29 to help local businesses find cost-effective and innovative cleantech solutions.

Moffat Beach-based Latronics will be among more than 20 cleantech companies exhibiting at the event and company owner Klaus Langner said he was looking forward to showing other businesses how they could benefit from a vast array of clean technologies.

“Latronics is Australian-owned and one of the pioneers in designing and manufacturing inverters that convert DC battery power generated by renewable sources like solar or wind into AC mains power,” Mr Langner said.

“To date, Latronics has manufactured customised units for mines, railways, telecommunications, Antarctic facilities and various power utilities. We have also supplied inverters for domestic, industrial and alternative energy markets in over 30 countries.

“We’ve invested more than $2.5million into research and development on renewable energy over the past 10 years.

“Our Moffat Beach headquarters is a great example of what can be achieved. It is 100% solar powered when the sun is shining and in the evening our site’s Tesla 55kW car battery system, that charges through the day is used to power the building using a Latronics designed and built inverter. Any excess power is fed back into the grid.

“We utilise solar hot water heating and energy efficient lighting in our building that reduces our annual electricity costs by around $25,000.

“In 2007, our factory’s 26kW solar output made it one of the largest solar installations in Queensland and made us the first carbon neutral inverter manufacturer in the world. Our second factory’s 74kW output now gives us a total of 100kW.

“So we’re very excited to exhibit at next week’s Cleantech Effect 2016 and share information and potential solutions to other local businesses in areas like sustainable architectural design and materials, renewable energy generation, storage and product innovation, employment and training in green technology, rainwater capture and stormwater treatment.”

Latronics will showcase its inverter system with a display of the Tesla Roadster car at Cleantech Effect 2016. 

Mr Langner said the Tesla Roadster was the first production automobile to use lithium-ion battery cells. It is capable of  accelerating from zero to 100kph in just under four seconds and can drive up to 400kph on one charge.

“We've designed our own Inverter to utilize the Tesla battery just like any other, at the event we will display the running of appliances direct from the car itself.”

Economic Development Portfolio Councillor Stephen Robinson said The Cleantech Effect 2016 would be ideal for businesses, facility managers and building owners that want to explore long-term solutions that will give them a sustainable competitive advantage.

“It will showcase leading experts and cleantech case studies and businesses will hear about the latest cleantech trends and hot topics straight from the leading sources,” Cr Robinson said.

“As one of the seven high-value industries for the region, Clean Technologies is a key sector providing long-term economic growth and employment opportunities, and is fundamental to the Sunshine Coast fulfilling its vision to be Australia’s most sustainable region – vibrant, clean and diverse.”
