Fire warning

The Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group remains at alert status as fires continue to burn in the Caloundra region.

The situation in the affected area has improved during the afternoon, leading to the closure of the temporary place of shelter/neighbourhood safe place at Lake Kawana Community Centre in Sportsmans Parade, Bokarina at 4pm today.

It will remain on standby after receiving and supporting 75 residents in the past 24 hours.

It is expected that the fire will continue burning into Sunday, but weather conditions should be favourable to continue containment and extinguishment strategies.

Scaled down fire operations will continue throughout this evening and lower levels of smoke should be evident in the Caloundra area tonight

Council’s waste facility at Caloundra will be closed for the remainder of today but is expected to reopen tomorrow.
