If you’re a local artist with a talent for award design, why not express an interest in creating the trophy for the prestigious 2017 Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards celebrate the achievement and contribution of individuals and community organisations in our region.
“Each year we are honoured to present our Australia Day Award recipients with a unique trophy to recognise their achievements and outstanding contribution to the community,” Cr McKay said.
“Now is the time for local artists who are interested in designing the award trophy for the 2017 Australia Day Awards to submit a draft concept sketch or image, as well as estimations of production costs.
“Imagine the prestige of your trophy becoming a treasured item for our Sunshine Coast Australia Day Award recipients – it’s a great achievement to include in your portfolio.”
Mateship, kinship and uniting as one, were the inspiration behind the design of the 2016 Sunshine Coast Australia Day Award trophy, created by local designer, Kim Schoenberger.
According to artist Kim, the idea behind the concept was to design a trophy that represented what it means to be Australian and living on the Sunshine Coast.
“It was an honour to be chosen to design the 2016 Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards trophy,” Ms. Schoenberger said.
“When contemplating what it means to be an Australian, and living on the Sunshine Coast, one word came to mind – community.
“My design featured a tree, which is a symbol of protection, strength and stability and provides a solid base upon which all relies, just like a strong community.
“I had such pleasure designing the trophy and I would certainly recommend this opportunity to other local artists.”
Artists wishing to apply are asked to email a CV and draft sketch or image of the 2017 Australia Day Award design concept, as well as an estimate of production costs for eight awards to email@example.com by Friday, August 26, 2016. Entries will be judged by a panel of industry experts. Please note, only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
Nominations for the Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards will open on Monday, September 19 and close on Friday, December 9, 2016.
