Only children willing to have awesome fun need apply when Sunshine Coast Libraries celebrate all things ‘geekish’ during these school holidays.
Community Program Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said council’s libraries had come to the rescue of every parent on the coast with a huge range of activities to entertain children during the September and October holidays.
“Our libraries are well renowned for their extensive holiday program,” Cr McKay said.
“These holidays we have everything from popular Minecraft paper craft to paper engineering. Argentinian paper engineer, Gus Santome has created a very special 3D Sunshine Coast Library paper troll and we will be running sessions for children to build their own as well as creating Superman, Ironman, Naruto and other famous Disney characters.
“Local author and cartoonist Dave Hackett will be running three workshops teaching children how to create their own goofy superheroes.
“There are science experiments, timed Lego challenges and for those truly mad scientists a number of Frankentoy sessions where you can create totally new characters from dismembered toys.
“Did you know Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is 50 years young this year? This will also be celebrated on the Sunshine Coast with craft activities and stories.
“And of course in keeping with the theme, Sunshine Coast Libraries will build a pop up library at the Epic Diem Nerd Culture Expo at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Saturday, September 27 with special guest fantasy writer, Isobelle Carmody.
“There is certainly something for children of all ages but I urge people to book early to avoid disappointment as the holiday activities are very popular.”
Make sure you head to Council’s library website to book and for more details.
