The Sunshine Coast Regional Council will host a mixed media exhibition, ‘What’s so Dam Funny?’ at the Butter Factory Arts Centre, Cooroy, from 2 May – 30 May.
The exhibition is a provocative and irreverent collection of protest art, by photographer, designer and multimedia artist, Arkin Mackay.
Arkin said his inspiration for “What’s So Dam Funny?” was the tireless individuals, who worked on the No Dam campaign,
“This work is dedicated to the ‘Accidental Activists’ – the residents of the Mary River Valley”.
The arts centre is also offering classes in lead lighting, in addition to its regular ceramics and drawing classes.
Local glass artist Jason Makeig has developed a seven-week program in basic lead lighting, commencing Sunday 11 May. Students will learn design, installation, and layout techniques as well as workplace health and safety standards relating to handling, cutting and manipulating of glass.
Makeig, an experienced glass artist, has been working in this field since 1985. His experience lay in church restoration, producing private and public commissions and public works of art. His most recent work is a glass mural in the Gympie Hospital.
