The Beerwah Sports Ground Master Plan, including the Beerwah Aquatic Centre Feasibility Plan was adopted by Sunshine Coast Council at today’s Ordinary Meeting.
Wellbeing Planning Officer, David Cooper said the Beerwah Sports Ground Master Plan provides a clear way forward for the development of the grounds and expansion of the aquatic centre.
"The master plan builds on existing infrastructure to reflect best value for money, while retaining flexibility for changes in future use and/or multi-use options," Mr Cooper said.
"The 2011/12 capital works program includes $300,000 for staged construction of master plan initiatives.
"The plan aligns with existing council strategies, community needs, population projections, statutory policies and regulations.
"The cost of implementing recommendations cannot be funded in its own right by council.
"The adoption of the plan now provides council and stakeholders with a sound base to lobby the state and federal governments for funding assistance for major infrastructure work."
In 2004 council developed and endorsed a Master Plan for the Beerwah Sports Ground.
"In recent years a number of changes such as the newly constructed Beerwah by-pass which required the main entry and the skate and BMX facility to be relocated, meant that we needed to review and update the plan," Mr Cooper said.
"Beerwah sports facilities are experiencing increasing demand that will continue to escalate into the future due to population growth, expansion pressures and the need to support active and healthy lifestyles within our community.
"This plan caters for the existing and future demand for quality sport and recreation facilities in Beerwah.
"The plan recommends action for the enhancement of visual amenity, provision of a safe and secure environment, adequate and functional clubhouses and equitable access and sufficient parking."
