  • Wednesday 01 April 2015

The Australian Chamber Orchestra presents "Around the World" performed by ACO2 – a string ensemble renowned for its fresh and energetic performance style – at Council’s Nambour Civic Centre on Friday, May 22 at 7:30pm.

Led by guest director Benjamin Schmid, "Around the World" will take the audience on a journey through America, Russia and Germany, culminating in a voyage through Salzburg, Barcelona, Paris and Maputo with Berger’s Metropoles Suite for violin and strings.

Benjamin is a previous guest director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO), is a recipient of the German Record Prize, the Echo Klassik Prize, the Gramophone Editor’s Choice and the Strad Selection and has appeared with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra (London), the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

This will be a night to remember so book early to experience this high quality classical music performance on the Sunshine Coast.

Young string musicians are also encouraged to get involved in the ACO2 String Workshop on Friday, May 22 from 10am to 1pm at the Good Shepherd Lutheran College in Noosa.

ACO2 conduct string workshops during their regional tours each year.

Students become part of the ACO for a day, learning their rehearsal and performance techniques.

Thematically structured rehearsals and tutorials are based around concepts such as listening, leading, breathing, blending and performance style.

Students from different schools combine to form a chamber orchestra with ACO players leading each section.

The regional string workshop is free and runs for three hours and the good news is there is no recommended standard for applicants.
