The hugely popular Maroochydore Library Artspace has seen a number of local artists exhibiting their work throughout the past year and artists are now invited to submit an exhibition proposal to be a part of the 2018-19 exhibition calendar.

The Artspace, on level two at the Maroochydore Library, was launched in 2016 by Caloundra Regional Gallery, in conjunction with Sunshine Coast Libraries, to provide an opportunity for established and emerging local artists to exhibit and sell their works outside of a traditional gallery setting.

Arts Portfolio Councilor Rick Baberowski said it was important for our local artists to have opportunities to showcase their work to the community and visitors to the region.

“Holding an exhibition can be a difficult and daunting the task for emerging and even established artists, so it’s fantastic that we have this exhibition area and can provide support from our qualified gallery staff,” Cr Baberowski said.

“Our libraries are thriving community hubs, and the addition of the Maroochydore Library Artspace has so far provided six of our local artists with a unique opportunity to exhibit and share their work with a whole new audience.

“More than 50,000 people have visited the Artspace area since its launch in April 2017, so it provides significant exposure for the artist’s work.

“It’s also a fabulous professional development opportunity for the artists to work with experienced Caloundra Regional Gallery staff to develop their exhibition, artist statements, artwork labels, installation and promotion.”

Visit Maroochydore Library to see the current exhibition by Tory Richards – The Sorcery of Print – on display until October 28.

The space is equipped with gallery hanging systems and lighting, and exhibiting artists will be supported by experienced gallery staff throughout the process.

Exhibitions will run for a six-week period with the exhibition calendar starting in April 2018 and running through until April 2019.

Artists based in the Sunshine Coast Council region are invited to submit an exhibition proposal, CV and images to be considered for the 12-month exhibition program

Applications close on Friday, December 8, 2017.
