The month of September is the time for local businesses to apply for a three-year permit to undertake a range of activities on public land across the Sunshine Coast.
The main purpose of public land is for community use and enjoyment. Community Programs and Environment portfolio holder Councillor Jenny McKay said Sunshine Coast Council would award high-use / high-impact permits for activities on public land that benefit the community.
“Council is encouraging both new and existing business to apply for a permit to undertake a variety of activities on public land for the period July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2019. Applications close on October 2, 2015,” she said.
“Council has designated a number of locations across the region where businesses can operate on public land.
“There are also specific, approved activities that can be undertaken at each location, ranging from surf schools and sky diving to beach equipment hire and coffee vans.
“Applications will only be accepted for approved activities and locations.
“The aim of the high-use / high-impact commercial use of community land application process is to achieve balance between the community’s vision of the use of public land, small businesses wanting to use that land and the needs of existing and well-established businesses near that land.”
