Local community groups that have a project due to start from January 2012 are encouraged to apply for the current round of council’s Community Grants Program, which is open now and closes Thursday 1 September.
Groups can apply for funding of up to $15,000 for projects that have a start and a finish date, such as festivals, club house upgrades, community gardens, oral histories, sporting equipment, revegetation works and sun-safety measures.
Applications for up to $50,000 can be submitted for major infrastructure projects, provided the applicant can also provide significant co-funding to the project.
Community Policy and Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said by partnering with the community through the grants program, council is working towards its vision for the Sunshine Coast to be Australia’s most sustainable region.
"From hall and kitchen renovations, to equipment upgrades, festivals and historical research – each year council’s Community Grants program continues to provide assistance for projects that benefit communities right across the region," Cr McKay said.
"The grants program gives community groups the financial resources they need to continue the positive and ongoing contribution they make to the Sunshine Coast community."
Groups can apply for one of seven categories including Community Development, Cultural Development, Economic Development, Environment, Heritage and History, and Sport, Recreation and Healthy Living.
Cr McKay encourages the prospective applicants to call a council Grants Officer to discuss the project.
"A Grants Officer will be able to give you advice on how to write the most compelling grant application, and also provide direction as to which category suits the project best," Cr McKay said.
"They’ll help you tease out all the important information and give you the best chance of success."
A Grants Officer can be contacted on 5441 8616.
