Which industry is most ready for #innovation on the Sunshine Coast?

Local residents can join industry leaders, investors and entrepreneurs from throughout the state in tweeting which of our high value industries is leading the way during this week’s Advance Queensland Innovation and Investment Summit in Brisbane.

Economic Development Portfolio Councillor Stephen Robinson said the April 27-29 event is part of the Advance Queensland program, which aims to promote innovation, attract investment, strengthen the state’s economy and create the jobs of the future.

“Sunshine Coast Council is exhibiting at this event to promote our region’s talented entrepreneurs and enable people from outside our region to connect with our innovative and welcoming community,” Cr Robinson said.

“Our exhibit includes an interactive light wall to encourage guests at the summit to tweet which of the Sunshine Coast’s seven high value industries is the most innovative – we’re also encouraging locals to engage in this by selecting which industry they believe to be our most innovative.

“The Sunshine Coast was awarded the international Smart 21 Intelligent Community Award in 2014 and 2015. We also received the Google etown award in 2013 and had three local entrepreneurs recently awarded Queensland Digital Champion status.

“Our region is already home to a wide range of businesses that can be considered leaders in their field. We are well supported by a strong entrepreneurial, collaborative and digitally-orientated ecosystem and there is an increasing emphasis on investment in and support of digital work hubs to accelerate growth in professional and knowledge industry workers across the region.”

Cr Robinson said the Advance Queensland Innovation and Investment Summit strongly aligned with the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Strategy 2013-2033.

“Council’s involvement in this event will help stimulate further innovation which is a key driver to our New Economy built on leadership, collaboration and identity; capital investment; high-value industries; local-to-global connections; and investment in talent and skills,” he said.

“By exhibiting we are aiming to position and showcase the present and future progress of innovation, entrepreneurship and investment opportunities on the Sunshine Coast while sparking further networking and business development ideas and assistance for local businesses.”

The Sunshine Coast Council display, which centres around the interactive light wall, is in itself a demonstration of the region’s entrepreneurial talent. It was created by local creative technologist and award-winning Digital Champion Mic Black. The Light Wall is on display for the first time at the Advance Queensland Summit and will be used at a range of future events to encourage engagement through social media. To get involved, tweet @CouncilSCC between Wednesday 27th April at 5.30pm and Friday 29th April at 5pm.
