Does your not-for-profit community group need help funding a project, event or activity? Perhaps you’re running a creative or community workshop, need to update your equipment or attend a seminar.
Apply now for grants of up to $2000 through Sunshine Coast Council’s Minor Community Grants Program.
One recent beneficiary was Generation Innovation whose community development grant was put towards a project titled “GI In-a-Box” to help some of the Coast’s creative younger residents.
"Generation Innovation was founded in 2014 on the Sunshine Coast with a vision to unleash the innovation of young people,” treasurer Ross Hepworth said.
“The program involves empowering young people to think creatively and positively and to pursue their business ideas by connecting to the real economy.
“Running in 2015 and 2016, GI proved its value to young participants and to older community and business leaders who contributed to its activities through the GI Challenge and the Future Visioning exercise.
“Following on from this success, there was a need to codify the methods, tools and processes of GI to help scale activities into the future.
“Council’s community development grant enabled us to undertake the project ‘GI In-a-Box’ which codified some of the methods, tools and processes that we use in the GI Challenge.
“GI In-a-Box will enable us to extend our reach into the community, empowering more young people and helping them to unleash their innovative genius.”

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said community groups could apply for a grant to assist with projects that benefit Sunshine Coast communities.
“The fantastic work that Generation Innovation is doing for our young people is an outstanding example of the way in which our grants program can help the community,” Cr McKay said.
“The grants are a great way for all sorts of community groups to obtain funding to help with their smaller, but important projects.
“If you’re considering a grant for your community group, please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and give our grant’s officers a call.”
Community groups can apply for funding for one-off projects through one of seven categories:
- Community Development
- Community Facilities
- Cultural Development
- Cultural Heritage
- Economic Development
- Sport, Recreation and Healthy Living
- Community Events
Applications for Minor grants will close at midnight on Monday, May 8, 2017.
The final round of 50th Anniversary Fund grants is also currently open to not-for-profit groups and organisations for projects, events and activities that support the 50th anniversary and its legacy.
Applications for round two of Category A grants (up to $2000) in the 50th Anniversary Fund close on Friday, May 19, 2017.
