24 Coast ‘Seasons’ present at South Bank
  • Friday 29 July 2011

If you are heading to Brisbane anytime this weekend and suddenly need a taste of home, drop into South Bank.

You can barrack for 24 Sunshine Coast gourmet food and wine growers and producers who will showcase their quality products alongside a range of other Queensland exhibitors, at the popular annual Regional Flavours food event.

The Coast boasts many award winners in its exhibiting stable this year, including Maleny Dairies, Pomona’s Tomarata, Noosa Lime Co, Nambour’s Olives Direct, Nutrifruit from Palmwoods and Zehnder’s Gluten Free breads.

"All the exhibitors are heading down as part of the Coast’s extraordinarily successful Season of the Sun local food group which is continuing to expand with new members joining every day. Our group is the largest to attend this year’s Regional Flavours," Seasons of the Sun group chair Alexina Johnson said.

"If you are going, you will be able to eat, observe and shop for your own locally produced gourmet food and wine as well as learn about sustainable food practices – all in one location.

"The event program will include cooking demonstrations by leading local celebrity chefs and former MasterChef contestants. Celebrity gardeners and experts on sustainable living will advise on how you can support your local farming community."

Economic Development Portfolio Councillor Lew Brennan, said the Coast’s range of producers and growers was second to none.

"We can provide almost a year-round range of food products these days, which makes us one of the best food regions in Australia," he said.

"Judging by the consistent award winners in the region, it’s clear we also have the most dedicated and quality-minded group of producers who really ‘get’ what we are trying to do here – which is to be as self-sufficient as we can through growing, packaging and distributing home-based food."

Regional Flavours is one of the best food events in the state, so if the chance to go is there – take it. You can say hello to Council’s food officer Jaylene Chambers while you’re there.

More details are available at the Regional Flavours website, including a full list of our 24 exhibitors.
