I am currently studying a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Tourism, Leisure and Event Management at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Having travelled and lived overseas for a majority of my life, the degree I chose reflected my upbringing and personal interests. Relocating to the Sunshine Coast was one of the scariest and most exciting things I had ever done, and I can safely say the decision was by far one of the best I have ever made in my life. With only six months left of my undergraduate degree, I began looking for jobs that reflected what I had been learning and a way to enter the industry.

I stumbled across the internship looking for jobs on Seek. It seemed like an amazing opportunity that was potentially out of my grasp but I applied anyway. After successfully landing an interview I was stunned by the high calibre of candidates. Lucky for me I was offered a job with Economic Development, working with the Tourism and Major Events Team.

My projects were all well-defined on my first day, allowing me to fully understand what I would be doing during my internship. I was fortunate enough to work with every member of the team on a different project, it allowed me to build industry connections and learn from different people.

I wasn’t sure what to expect prior to starting, although I was happily surprised. I have gained so much real world experience and I have started to turn my education into a profession. Not only was I able to become familiar with an office and full time job,  but I developed a range of new skills thanks to all my amazing mentors and colleagues. I would highly recommend this internship to anyone looking to gain professional experience prior or post degree, as the values I have gained are more than I ever expected!
