I have previously studied a Bachelor of Journalism at the Queensland University of Technology.

The My Summer Workplace Internship offered a fantastic opportunity for me to explore local government and discover the type of media career I aspire to achieve. This work experience appealed to my journalistic storytelling skills, allowed me to experience a professional working environment and gave me the opportunity to meet new industry professionals.

Being placed within the Strategy and Coordination team in the Office of the Mayor and CEO, I was welcomed with open arms. I was also highly impressed with the level of respect they afforded to me as I was encouraged to be a real member of the team.

I worked on a number of key projects including the 2017 state election, the Mayor’s State of the Region event and bringing the Corporate Plan to life. I also assisted with the running of council meetings and innovation groups.

I was fortunate to learn about council, and what they’ve achieved as an organisation and their innovative goals for the future. I thoroughly enjoyed attending council meetings, being introduced to the Mayor and gaining an understanding of how things happen.

This internship reaffirmed my career goals, direction and confidence and I am grateful for the opportunity to explore my professional needs.
