I became aware of the My Summer Workplace internship via the local newspaper. I applied for the internship for the reason that as a recent graduate I needed hands on experience to improve upon my existing theoretical knowledge and to improve my prospects of finding employment. During my time at the sunshine coast council I have gained experience in:
- PC Rollout
- Imaging devices and installing software
- Configuring PC's for public library use such as
- Online public access catalogues and public internet
- Troubleshooting hardware issues
- I.T. service desk
- Technical services
My time at the Sunshine Coast Council has been enjoyable and informative due to the fact my technical service colleagues have provided me with a supportive environment to learn and put my theoretical knowledge to use. My colleagues are extremely experienced and are more than happy to pass on their wisdom and any tips, I have no doubt their guidance will prove highly useful in the future.
I highly recommend applying for the My Summer Workplace intern because there is a recurring theme regarding employment for graduates which is the lack of experience factor. Where do I get experience if no one is willing to hire me? An internship offers you the chance to learn by doing in a setting where you are supervised by a work-place professional, and have the opportunity to achieve your own learning goals, without the responsibilities of being a permanent employee.
