Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion Project
Sunshine Coast Airport (SCA), a business unit of council, is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Airport Expansion Project. The project includes a new east–west runway.
The EIS will review the social, economic and environmental impacts of the expansion project and the airport will submit the findings for state and federal government assessment.
The expansion project will ensure the airport can meet forecast growth while also creating jobs, stimulating the local economy, improving airport services and reducing disruptions to passengers.
Council invites members of the community to register for more information about the EIS or submit feedback:

The EIS is expected to be released to the community for a public notification period in 2014.
Where to from here
Community engagement is a crucial component of the EIS process and government will consider public views and opinions as part of the EIS assessment.
To ensure the entire community is kept up to date about the project and has an opportunity to provide comment, council will:
- provide regular updates on its website
- endeavour to undertake widespread briefings and presentations
- issue newsletters
- prepare displays at community venues and events.
The Airport Expansion Project was first detailed as part of the airport's long term master plan published in 2007.
Subject to approval of the EIS, construction of the new runway and associated infrastructure should start by 2015, with the new runway operational around 2020.
