Our Place Our Future
'Our Place Our Future' is council's invitation to the Sunshine Coast community to be part of the planning that will guide the way the Coast looks, feels and grows over the next twenty years.
Purpose
Council is committed to help the Sunshine Coast become Australia’s most sustainable region—vibrant, green, diverse—and is working towards this starting with a series of strategies, discussion papers and background studies. These aim to retain the Coast’s lifestyle and character as a community of communities, protect the region’s natural assets and diversify the economy.
Council is also creating the first planning scheme for the Sunshine Coast region and has prepared for public comment the Statement of Proposals—the first step towards the new Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme.
Community engagement
Only by partnering with the community can council get this vital planning right. So council is calling on residents to have their say on the following papers.
Council is taking the following documents on the road, visiting locations across the Sunshine Coast. Council staff will be at each venue to answer your questions and provide more information for those who would like extra detail.
Unmanned displays will be at council libraries and customer service centres until Monday 7 December. A special newsletter — Our Place Our Future [PDF 815KB] was delivered to your letterbox on 10 October.
Join in the discussion on Facebook by becoming a friend of council.
You are invited to have your say on all of the papers or just those that interest you by filling out an online feedback form or sending council a detailed submission to:

Where to from here
The community engagement period opens Monday 12 October and closes 4.00 pm on Monday 7 December.
Council will review all feedback received and use it to inform documents that will help plan the region's future.
Overview
Council has prepared a range of papers on the big picture issues to both guide the Sunshine Coast long term and to include in the new planning scheme.
They also include the Statement of Proposals—the first step in the preparation of the new Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme. The new planning scheme will replace the three existing planning schemes across the Sunshine Coast and incorporate current regional and state government planning policies.
The Statement of Proposals addresses the big picture outcomes the new planning scheme must deliver, and the community is asked to comment.
Background
More than one million people are expected to settle in South East Queensland in the next 20 years. Of those, demographers anticipate that 180,000 will head for the Sunshine Coast.
That means council needs to not only plan for the growth but also understand the community’s vision for the place in which we live, the constraints and the opportunities in meeting that vision and the way we can shape a future that retains the Coast’s liveability, both for us today and for generations to come.
