Garden Waste Bin Collection

Council provides an optional, fortnightly garden waste collection service to Sunshine Coast residents located in the Caloundra and Noosa areas. If you live in these areas and would like to request a green waste bin, please contact council's customer service centre.

Garden waste bins are collected on the alternate weeks to recycling bins. Find the collection day for your garden waste bin.

Residents living in the Maroochy area can dispose of garden waste at designated council waste management facilities. The green waste can often be recycled as mulch, with the added benefit of diverting it from landfill.

The following green waste items can be placed into garden waste bins:

  • lawn clippings
  • leaves and twigs
  • small logs
  • garden prunings.

Garden waste bins are not suitable for general waste or recyclables. Putting non-green waste into a garden waste bin can contaminate an entire bin load.

Garden waste charges

Garden waste bin collection fees are paid as part of your council rates. To find out how much your bin collection service costs each year, view council's Revenue Policy [PDF 38KB] Revenue Statement Part A [PDF 339KB] and Revenue Statement Part B [PDF 3.5MB].

Garden waste bin collection guidelines

  • Bin collection vehicles operate from 6 am to 6 pm. Please ensure your bin is out during these times so that it can be collected.
  • Please ensure the following items are not placed in the garden waste bin:
    • bricks or rubble
    • sand or dirt
    • heavy items such as large logs or stumps.
  • If the bin contents exceed 70 kilograms, it cannot be emptied.
  • All items placed in the bin should fit loosely so that the bin empties easily.
  • The bin lid must be able to close completely.
  • Place your bin within 50 centimetres of the roadside, with lid handles facing the road and wheels facing away from the road.
  • Ensure the collection truck has access to the bin, with no obstacles in the truck’s way.

Bin damage and replacement

You should report damaged or stolen bins to council's customer service centre. Please note that residents are responsible for the cleanliness of their bins.
