Local Government Reform
On 15 March 2008, the former councils of Noosa Shire, Maroochy Shire and Caloundra City amalgamated to form the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
Reform program
The Queensland State Government decided to amalgamate the three former Sunshine Coast councils as part of its state-wide Local Government Reform Program announced in April 2007.
The Queensland parliament endorsed the amalgamation recommendation on Friday 10 August 2007. The state government committed to allowing local councils to lead the change process. On the Coast, this process was led by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council Local Transition Committee (LTC).
