Sunshine Coast Council and the Sunshine Coast Airport have welcomed Tiger Airways’ announcement of additional direct services to and from Melbourne from Saturday 9 January.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot said the extra flights would benefit local businesses, travellers and the region as a whole.
“This decision means more choice and more opportunities to travel between our beautiful Sunshine Coast and Melbourne,” Cr Abbot said.
Airport General Manager Peter Pallot said the airport was excited about Tiger Airways’ additional service on the Sunshine Coast-Melbourne route.
“With flights operating five times a week, the extra 19,000 seats annually is welcomed and reflects the growing importance of the partnership between Sunshine Coast Airport and Tiger Airways,” Mr Pallot said.
Managing Director of Tiger Airways Australia, Shelley Roberts said the airline was pleased to be able to offer the extra services from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast.
“From Tiger Airways’ perspective, we believe that the Sunshine Coast has so much more potential for growth – it’s already one of the airline’s favourite destinations,” Ms Roberts said.
From Saturday, January 9 2010, flights from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast will operate five days per week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday Saturday and Sunday.
