Commercial Use of Community Land
Are you a surf instructor? Do you sell ice-cream in a fixed location? Council is now seeking informal Registrations of Interest from prospective business operators who may be interested in establishing a business on council-controlled community land.
Purpose
The purpose of the registration is to establish the desired level of commercial activity through community consultation and to then inform a future tender process. Examples of commercial activities on community land include:
- Boat hire
- Fixed location food vans

Council in interested in hearing from potential operators about these and other activities they may wish to operate on community land.
Community Engagement
Council recently invited business operators to participate in a survey to identify commercial activities they may wish to operate on community land. Submissions closed at 5.00 pm 20 November 2009.

Business operators are invited to read the Commercial Use of Community Land Policy [PDF 255 KB]. This policy provides important information on council’s position in relation to possible commercial activity.
Information submitted during the Registration of Interest process on the proposed types of businesses and locations may be shared during the community consultation, however personal details will be protected.
Registerers should also be aware that their proposed business may not meet the criteria of the policy or may not be considered desirable following community consultation and consideration by council. Therefore not all business ideas submitted will be included in the tender process.
There will be no cost to complete a Registration of Interest or to submit a tender.
Prospective business operators will not be required to obtain public liability insurance for the Registration of Interest, however it will be a prerequisite for the tender process. Permits issued as a result of the tender process will be for a term of three years.
Where to from here
Council will collate the results and any submissions that meet the criteria will be brought to the general public for comment.
