Beaches
No trip to the Sunshine Coast is complete without a visit to the region’s beautiful beaches. Extra services such as the Sunshine Coast’s professional lifeguards and convenient beachside facilities help create the perfect day out.
With an expansive coastline stretching from Caloundra to an hour’s drive north to Noosa, there are dozens of beaches to explore.

Beach safety
The Sunshine Coast’s beaches are beautiful, but just like Mother Nature, they can be unpredictable. Before swimming in the ocean, take the time to learn the simple rules of beach safety [PDF 269KB].
To ensure the safety and enjoyment of residents and visitors, lifeguards regularly patrol popular Sunshine Coast beaches. If you’re unsure if beach conditions are suitable for swimming, ask one of the friendly lifeguards or check the signs at the beach entrance.
Lifeguard service
Sunshine Coast Council is one of the few councils in the world that provides a year-round lifeguard service on its beaches.
Two types of lifeguards patrol Sunshine Coast beaches, overseeing the safety of the thousands of residents and tourists that visit the region's beaches each year.
Sunshine Coast Council Professional Lifeguard Service staff are employees of council, and are distinguished by their blue and white lifeguard uniforms.
Volunteer lifesavers also regularly patrol Sunshine Coast beaches, and are identified by their red and yellow lifesaver uniforms.
Council’s professional lifeguard service provides four main services to the community – beach and water safety, beach education, local law enforcement and tourism support.
All lifeguards have extensive training in rescue techniques, resuscitation and lifesaving procedures while using the most up-to-date lifesaving equipment including defibrillators and jet skis.
Most lifeguards are involved with volunteer surf life saving clubs, helicopter rescue services or other emergency services agencies. Many of council’s professional lifeguards also compete successfully in surf competitions with state, national and world champions within our ranks.
