THE GALLERY'S MISSION

The Caloundra Regional Art Gallery's mission is to showcase the local visual arts through Gallery curated shows, touring exhibitions, and provide learning opportunities for the economic, cultural and social enhancement of our community. The Gallery is a permanent regional art gallery in which the facility and programs centre on excellence in visual arts practice with a strong educational focus.

A brief history

The Gallery is located in the converted 1970s former library building, Felicity House, located at 22 Omrah Avenue, Caloundra. The building is part of a civic and cultural precinct located in central Caloundra near the Caloundra Civic Cultural Centre, the Council Administration Building and the Caloundra City Library.

The Gallery establishment was in response to community pressure in the 1990s including recommendations from a Cultural Mapping project in 1994, the establishment of a Steering Committee in 1995, followed by the commissioning by the Caloundra City Council of a Business Plan and development proposal in 1997.

An interim ‘Caloundra Regional Gallery’ operated from the J L Beausang Room in the Caloundra Cultural Centre from December 1996 to March 1998.

The Caloundra Regional Art Gallery Society was formed in 1996 and incorporated in 1997. This organisation is now known as the ‘Friends, Regional Gallery, Caloundra Inc.’ Its role is as a support group to raise funds for Gallery identified requirements and to enhance the Gallery’s profile within the community.

The Gallery was opened jointly on August 11, 2000, by Caloundra City Mayor Cr Don Aldous and Mrs Joan Sheldon, Spokesperson for the Arts and Gallery Patron.
