NBN - what is and what will be available
The National Broadband Network (NBN) is being constructed across Australia using three different technologies. These are: optic fibre (in urban areas) fixed wireless (mostly surrounding the urban areas) and satellite (for the rural and remote areas).
For most of the Coast hinterland, satellite and fixed wireless will be the two most common solutions. Telstra, Optus and other carrier already have packages available at reasonable rates to consumers for access.
Satellite is already available – with free installation – while fixed wireless and fibre-to-the-home technology is being rolled out – also with free installation – over the next few years, starting from the Nambour exchange. Some new developments on the Coast are also being fitted with fibre as they are built, such as Stockland, Bells Reach, Halcyon Landing, Bli Bli, and Emporio Development at Maroochydore.
Sunshine Coast Council in partnership with a number of regional, industry and business partners is making information available on how to get broadband and use broadband, at www.broadbandtoday.com.au/sunshinecoast
